      "Superior" Hand-operated
      Surface Grinder

A competitor to the better-known Eagle, Capco and Herbert hand-operated grinders, the Superior was distinguished by an unusual stand that tapered to a point at the front. Build quality was excellent with trouble taken to specify the correct materials and heat treatment processes necessary to ensure a long and trouble-free life. A choice of Timken taper roller bearing or plain bearings was offered for the wheel head and with a longitudinal travel of 18 inches and across of 6 inches most toolroom jobs were well within it compass. Today these grinders made a most useful and interesting addition to the home workshop and allow jobs to be completed to an otherwise difficult-to-archive degree of accuracy. The maker's specification sheets are reproduced lower down the page (though the quoted weight might be an under-estimate.
