Friedrich Schumer Watchmaker's Lathe
Other watchmakers' Lathes
Manufactured in Wuppertal-Hahnerberg, 30 km to the east of Dusseldorg. Germany, the high-quality Friedrich Schumer watchmaker's lathe is uncommon with few ever coming onto the second-hand market.
Of the lighter "Geneva" pattern, the Schumer had the usual "round" bed formed, in this case, with the flat on the top instead of as, more usually, at the back. Similar in form to the bed on some G.Boley lathes, this Schumer has been fitted with a Boley compound slide rest assembly. Unusually long for a Geneva-type lathe, the headstock took 8 mm drawbar-held collets.
Little information survives about this make of lathe and should you own one, the writer would be interested to hear from you..
