Hardinge DV-59 high-precision plain-turning lathe. This was the basic machine of the range shown on this page (all used the same, bed headstock and type of drive system) and could be equipped with a variety of accessories for specific tasks. One of the most popular conversions was as a second-operation or capstan production version, such as the DSM-59 shown immediately below.
In some catalogs lathe the description "Five-Nine Super-Precision Model Shop Lathe" was used.
      9" swing
      1
      1/16" collet capacity
      6" step chuck capacity
      5" jaw chuck capacity

Hardinge DSM 59 capstan/turret production machine
      9" fixture diameter
      1
      1/16" collet capacity
      6" step chuck capacity
      5" jaw chuck capacity

      Capacity 11" x 18"
      1 1/16" collet capacity
      6" step chuck capacity
      5" jaw chuck capacity

Hardinge HC-AT with power sliding and surfacing feeds, the typical Hardinge low-profile indexing capstan head and the (very rare) automatic thread chasing head mounted on the back of the headstock that allowed the cutting of more than one thread at once on a job. 9" fixture capacity  11/16" collet capacity  6" step chuck capacity
      8 station turret
      Speeds to 3000 rpm
      Maximum diameters for threading:
      6" external,  5" internal
      Maximum length for threading:  1.75"
12 - 64 pitch threads from leadscrew and follower.

Hardinge HSL 59 "Simple Operation Lathe" designed for the economical production of very components to a high standard of accuracy
      9" swing
      1
      1/16" collet capacity
      spindle speeds to 3000 rpm
      cross slide travel 3",

      Hardinge HC high-precision production lathe
      9" fixture capacity
      1 1/16" collet capacity
      6" step chuck capacity
      8 station turret
      Speeds to 3000 rpm

Hardinge DSM-59R. As this lathe was capable of prolonged, very hard use, most have been worked to death. A little-used example such as this is now seldom discovered
