      The "Elffers" Home-built Lathe

      Elffers Home Page

Simple, single-sided apron but (unlike many cheaper commercial lathes in years gone by) incorporating a reduction feed to the rack gear. Note the generous size of the bronze leadscrew clasp nuts and their adjustable, dovetail slides

The top slide was secured to the cross slide using an inverted cone and pusher screws--exactly as used on Myford Super 7 and Boxford lathes

13/4" diameter carbon steel headstock spindle and taper-roller bearing assembly

Neat and strong arrangement to allowing both locking and indexing of the headstock spindle

Lever-feed tailstock spindle with capstan-handle drive

      Tailstock spindle
